Advent is a time of waiting. We are asked to “watch,” to be prepared!
Prepared of course for the coming of the Christ child . . . savior of the world. God’s greatest gift to the world is born in a lowly stable and laid in a manger with shepherds gathered round. We, joyously, welcome him into our hearts when he comes on Christmas Day.
Now that He is here in our hearts . . . the question is “do we have a relationship with Him? Do we really know Him? Our parish will be offering you the opportunity to experience a personal encounter with Jesus through a program called “Discovering Christ”. What a wonderful follow up to Advent and Christmas.
You might be asking “what is Discovering Christ all about?” Well, Pope Benedict gives us a succinct answer “Faith is above all a personal, intimate encounter with Jesus and to experience his closeness, his friendship, his love; only in this way do we learn to love him more and to follow him ever more. May this happen to each one of us.”
Discovering Christ is a seven-week experience where anyone and everyone, from the baptized in the pews to the unbaptized, is invited to hear the Good News and personally encounter Jesus Christ. It helps people enter into or renew a relationship with Jesus, experience the love of God and be empowered by the Holy Spirit to live as God’s children.
Discovering Christ consists of 7 weekly sessions and a retreat day. Each session starts with a meal followed by prayer time, a video teaching and small group discussion.
Pray for the success of the program! More information will follow. Check out our website to register for Discovering Christ and bring a friend.
