A joyful theme that runs through the Feasts of Pentecost, The Most Holy Trinity, and The Body and Blood of Christ, is the reassuring message that Emmanuel! God is with us. Always! Let’s take a look at how each Feast bears this promise in a unique way.
Starting with Pentecost, the gifts of the Holy Spirit were poured out like a libation in the upper room. Christ ascended so the Apostles could receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit, his love. That spirit of love that Christ has for all is brought to fruition in his Church which was born on Pentecost. It is through the Church that his ministry is carried on and how he remains with us and guides us today.
On Trinity Sunday we are given the glorious insight into the role of Abba, or Father, in our lives. We are told we are his children and joint heirs participating fully in the benefits won by Christ. We are family!
Christ assures us “I am with you always until the end of the age.” He asks that we take his loving message and mission of redemption to the ends of the earth. Baptizing in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. His mission which began with a small band of followers in Israel is expanded to “all nations.”
The Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ honors the powerful promise Christ made in John 6…. “He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life…..he lives in me and I live in him.” The “Real Presence” is the body of Christ which we are a living part of when we receive Communion. We become bread for one another at the Eucharistic banquet. We are a community of love.
In Matthew 18, Jesus promises “where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” He guarantees his constant presence to those who love him.
Christ is with us! Rejoice!
