Kindness is Contagious

In the early church, acts of kindness were hallmarks of the faith.  Helping the poor, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, caring for the ill, and burying the dead all stemmed from Christ's admonition to "love one another."  The song lyrics "they will know us by our love" rings as true today just as it did 2000 years ago.

Acts of kindness bless the giver and receiver.  The person receiving that kindness in most cases feels like they would like to pass a act of kindness on to others.  It is like a virus that w catch from one another and pass it on hopefully for a life time.  Among Christians it is a contagion.

Daily, as we go out to meet the world here is a pledge, written by Fr. Lawrence Lovasik, that should be our guide for living out Christ's great command.

The Kindness Pledge

I resolve to:

  1. Speak kindly of someone at least once a day.
  2. Think kindly about someone at least once a day.
  3. Act kindly toward someone at least once a day.
  4. Avoid speaking unkindly of anyone.
  5. Avoid speaking unkindly to anyone.
  6. Avoid acting unkindly toward anyone.

Won't you take this pledge and become contagious with the kindness virus?
