Today we are asked to lead a spiritual life which is Christ centered. What better way to do this than to say the name of Jesus over and over. It’s important to realize that this is a “heavenly chosen name.” In Luke 1:30 the Angel tells Mary “Behold you will conceive in your womb and you shall call him Jesus.”
Christians down through the ages have regarded the Holy Name of Jesus with great reverence. St. Paul in Philipians 2:10 states “That in the name of Jesus every knee should bow of those in heaven, on earth and under the earth.” In Romans 10:13 he says “His name saves souls.”
In John 16:23, the power of His name used in petitions is stressed when Jesus says, “If you ask the Father anything in my name He will give it to you.” So when we say “Jesus” ask God for all we need with absolute confidence of being heard. For this reason, the Church ends her prayers with the words, “through Jesus Christ,” which gives your petition a Divine power.
When we say the name of Jesus we enter in to a relationship with the founder of the Catholic faith and savior of all mankind. Recently, a priest suggested we take this a step further. If you have someone in your life that is really bothering you create what he calls a “Holy Sandwich.” It would look like this….say the name of Jesus, the name of the person who is bothering you, and then say the name of Jesus again. You sandwich that person’s name between Jesus’ name.
This holiest name in heaven and earth can literally transfigure and beautify the “difficult” challenges you face in your life.
