Bible Study Jeremiah

Join us in our Lenten Bible study of the Book of Jeremiah. This major figure of the Old Testament was a potent preacher, pointing out how the people had turned from God and that the coming destruction of Judah, Jerusalem, and the Temple was a moral and spiritual necessity. As a result, he suffered their rejection, scorn and worse, paying a high personal price for his prophetic mission. In a Christ-like manner, he made his life a Messianic prophecy, enduring for his people the very sufferings that were predicted and proclaimed. Jeremiah profoundly shaped the theological perspective of the New Testament authors and their understanding of Jesus Christ, who himself claimed to fulfill Jeremiah’s prophecies through the blood of the “new covenant” (Lk 22:19–22; 1 Cor 11:23–25).

Join us as we go deeper into this major prophet and his effect on our salvation history, drawing from Old and New Testament writings. Sessions will be Wednesday evenings 7-8:30pm and Thursday Noon to 1:30. We will begin March 12/13 and end April30/May1, taking off for Holy Week. If you plan on attending, please contact Rick Halsted via email at rhalsted@frontiernet.net or the parish office at 334-3518 to reserve a spot and be on the email list to receive weekly course materials. As our text, we will be using the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible volume, “Jeremiah, Lamentations, and Baruch”. It is available at Ignatius.com or through Amazon.
